How Can Companies Adopt Responsible Tax Behaviours?

Corporate taxation is central to the overall economic and social wellbeing of countries, as it contributes to secure the delivery of essential public services, such as education, healthcare, and infrastructures, in local economies. As the green and digital transformation of Europe’s economic system is gaining new momentum, regulators’ attention turned once more on companies’ tax behaviour to fund a just transition towards climate neutrality. As a result, multinational corporations are increasingly pressured by policymakers, investors, and civil society to integrate tax into their material issues.

At the European SDG Roundtable “Towards Responsible Tax Behaviour”, taking place on 12 October at 9:30-11:00 CET, CSR Europe and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) will highlight:

  • How tax reporting can play a crucial role in more transparency and accountability.

  • The latest corporate tax practices and how they could evolve under the push of regulators to adopt the Commission’s proposal for the Country-by-Country Reporting (CBCR) Directive.

Guest speakers include Evelyn Regner, Member of the European Parliament and co-negotiator for the CBCR Directive; Eelco van der Enden, Board Member of GRI; Alessandro Bucchieri, Head of Tax Affairs at Enel; Anders Tegelberg, Head of Tax at Vattenfall; Tjeerd Krumpelman, Global Head of Advisory, Reporting & Engagement at ABN AMRO; Peter Paul Van de Wijs, Chief External Affairs Officer at GRI; Chiara Putaturo, EU Inequality & Tax Policy Advisor at OXFAM; Olivia Lally, Senior Policy & Advocacy Officer /Tax Justice at EURODAD; Axel Hilling, Associate Professor at the Lund University.

The Roundtable is part of the European SDG Summit 2021, taking place online from 11-14 October. The Summit will bring together 5000+ Sustainability Leaders in 4 High-Level plenaries and 26 European and National SDG Roundtables to accelerate the journey towards climate neutrality and the adoption of an inclusive approach to the green and digital transition. The event is open and free for everyone.
