Improve Your Company’s Grievance Mechanisms at CSR Europe’s Materials Atelier

Regulators worldwide are increasingly focusing on setting mandatory requirements for companies when it comes to human rights and environmental due diligence. From the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) to the imminent Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), the new requirements risk exposing businesses to new liabilities.

CSR Europe’s Materials Atelier Series “Fostering a Human-Rights Based Approach to Business” aims at supporting corporate members in establishing an effective grievance mechanism system for early risk identification, prevention, and remediation.

The first session took place on 31st March and focused on the due diligence requirements on grievance mechanisms. Experts of the CSR Europe network – including the German CSR Network econsense and the World Benchmarking Alliance - presented current and upcoming legislations on human rights due diligence and anti-slavery, the new possible legal requirements and responsibilities of each stakeholder.

Next steps:

To maximise this learning experience, CSR Europe corporate members are also invited to register to the next two Atelier sessions on:

  • Building a Successful Grievance Mechanism, taking place online on 08 June, between 10:00-11:00 CET. CSR Europe will provide insights on the concept of remediation and on how to build a successful grievance mechanism within members’ business operations. The session will focus on the different types of existing grievance mechanisms - as well as the differences compared to a social audit - while providing figures on employees’ engagement, purpose, design, and implementation of an effective grievance mechanism.

  • Assessing Companies’ Grievance Procedures, taking place in person at the CSR Europe headquarters, in Brussels, on 22 September between 10:30-12:00 CET. Building on the two previous sessions, individual companies will be asked to share - on a voluntary basis - best practice examples and challenges they are facing in setting up and implementing grievance procedures. Participating members will be required to proactively share inputs and suggestions for improvement. CSR Europe will deliver its Grievance Management Assessment to score members’ performance.
