McCain’s 2020 Sustainability Report

By 2050, it is estimated that we will need to produce 70 percent more food to meet the demands of the growing world population, requiring ~65 percent more water use, ~67 percent increase in cropland, ~54 percent phosphorus application, ~51 percent nitrogen application, and resulting in an increase of ~87 percent in CO2 emissions.

Meanwhile, the changing climate is disrupting harvests, leading to supply chain volatility, higher losses, and an uncertain future for many farmers. Finally, despite the many advances in modern science and technology, we are still seeing crop yields stagnate or become increasingly volatile

In its 2020 Sustainability Report “Together towards Planet-Friendly Food” McCain shares its commitments on four key areas of concern and impact:

  • Smart & Sustainable Farming: protecting soil health and biodiversity through regenerative agriculture, while adapting to climate change.

  • Resource-Efficient Operations: reducing CO2 emissions and water-use and packaging.

  • Good Food: answering the needs of increasingly health and planet-conscious consumers.

  • Thriving Communities: helping rural communities where we live and operate to thrive.
