Syensqo Joins CSR Europe to Ramp Up Sustainability Action

  • The science company inspired by Ernest Solvay’s scientific councils back in 1911 is amongst the 37 leading sustainable business to become member of the European business network for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility.

Syensqo, the science company developing groundbreaking solutions, has joined the group of 37 leading sustainable businesses as the newest corporate member of CSR Europe. As member, Syensqo will be able to bring its voice for implementing higher sustainability standards in business in the development of the European Union’s sustainability framework. This collaboration will also support science-based efforts towards just industrial transition and more resilient and equitable societies in Europe.

Inspired by the scientific councils which Ernest Solvay initiated in 1911, the company brings great minds together to push the limits of science and innovation for the benefit of customers, with a diverse, global team of more than 13,000 associates in 30 countries. Their solutions contribute to safer, cleaner, and more sustainable products found in homes, food and consumer goods, planes, cars, batteries, smart devices, and healthcare applications. Syensqo’s innovation power enables them to deliver on the ambition of a circular economy and explore breakthrough technologies that advance humanity.

A sustainability commitment aligned with a growth strategy

The company’s sustainability roadmap serves as a crucial guide towards fostering better growth for all. Building on the results achieved with Solvay in 2023, and as the consequence of the company split in December of the same year, Syensqo was able to adopt a much more ambitious strategy. This new approach aims to achieve climate neutrality across all its businesses by 2040, pivoting around three core pillars: climate and nature; sustainable growth; and better life.

Baseline 2021

Syensqo VP Sustainable Partnerships, Debecker, Dominique, said: With CSR Europe we must explore - together with governments - new ways to make sustainability workable inside European companies, in such a way that it will both improve their competitiveness AND advance humanity. That transformation is literally vital and we, at Syensqo, are proud to contribute. We see our engagement as a member of CSR Europe as an effective way to advocate our point of view at very early stages in the development of the European Union’s sustainability framework. More specifically, being a member of CSR Europe allows us to advocate in favor of increased sustainability in business, as our CEO Ilham Kadri believes that “companies who are not serious about sustainability will disappear”. Looking ahead, our intention is to further promote the social aspects of the Green Deal, which in our view need to be developed. We will advocate that position as part of our engagement within CSR Europe.
