THE CHALLENGE

Biodiversity encompasses the diverse array of flora and fauna across the globe, playing a crucial role in sustaining human existence. Yet, its decline ranks among the top five existential threats predicted to confront humanity in the next decade, and biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse are viewed as one of the fastest deteriorating global risks according to the World Economic Forum's 2023 Global Risks Report.

Preserving, restoring, and regenerating biodiversity, and rectifying ecosystem disruptions caused by daily activities is a shared responsibility towards our global natural heritage.

Long-term business success relies on incorporating biodiversity into decision-making structures, including identifying, assessing, mitigating, and disclosing biodiversity pressures in business operations. While an increasing number of companies adopt biodiversity strategies, many are still navigating the integration of these actions into their overall sustainability plans, emphasizing the need for strengthened cooperation among European corporates to collectively address these challenges.

OUR APPROACH

Building on the expertise developed on the topic of biodiversity through the previous Biodiversity & Industry platform, in 2024 CSR Europe launched the Biodiversity Alliance. The Alliance aims to facilitate companies in the complex efforts to recognize biodiversity as a priority and integrate solid biodiversity management strategies into their operations.

Within the Alliance, businesses will work together with their peers, European policymakers, and representatives of governments and civil society to achieve impact at scale and to create an alliance of leading companies that will act together on measurable improvement in their impact on biodiversity, leveraging the business opportunities that go along with it.

WHAT WE DELIVER

  • Virtual Meetings to better understand the current frameworks and the challenges faced by companies in relation to biodiversity management and reporting.

  • The outline of a collaborative action plan that includes:

    • Baseline measurement

    • Best practice approaches

    • A template for collaboration

  • Select a set of measurement and management tools, that will allow to scale up and increase the impact of business action towards Biodiversity in a collaborative way.
