EUROPEAN SDG ROUNDTABLE - Accelerating Action towards Biodiversity

We are addressing the following SDGs:

SPEAKERS

Globally, up to one million of the estimated eight million plant and animal species on Earth are at risk of extinction and over half of the world’s total GDP is at moderate or severe risk due to biodiversity loss. Despite the growing awareness of the biodiversity crisis, it is becoming increasingly evident that anthropogenic drivers of biodiversity loss will contribute to “ecological meltdown”.

Every business, no matter what the sector impacts and depends on biodiversity. There is still a significant amount of work needed to be done by business to halt biodiversity loss and contribute to the goal of becoming “nature positive” (enhancing the resilience of our planet and societies to halt and reverse nature loss).

Given the complexities of the biodiversity crisis, the purpose of this session is to help companies around Europe understand how the crisis and what actions they can take to protect and enhance biodiversity.  Furthermore, the session will draw parallels on the links between the biodiversity crisis and the climate crisis and how they can no longer be viewed in isolation.

Leading businesses from Czechia, Ireland and Spain will share examples of what actions they are taking to tackle biodiversity loss e.g. site protection work, natural capital accounting or including nature based solutions in the climate strategies.
