OPEN EVENT
Considering the current challenges of climate change and resource scarcity, it becomes even more important to find sustainable solutions to reduce the environmental impact of processes and products. Through the European Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan, the European Union is having a pioneering role in setting up an unprecedented strategy for growth, to reduce environmental pressure, ensure raw materials availability and increase competitiveness.
In sight of the EU’s 2050 climate neutrality goal, the traditional linear economy scheme of the take-make-dispose is no longer viable.
The concept of Circular Economy is very appealing to companies and policymakers, but it is very challenging to implement at scale with huge technical, market and regulatory obstacles.
This is why CSR Europe and Leonardo decided to launch a temporary think tank, the “New Materials and Circular Economy Accelerator”, and brought together different relevant stakeholders to take stock of challenges, opportunities and key learnings to increase the circularity of composite materials, from manufacturing to recycling.
During the first meeting of the think tank in April, several issues were raised on materials’ recyclability.
While – from a sustainability perspective – composite materials are an asset for the aerospace, automotive, wind energy and construction sectors, allowing for lightweight structures and energy savings, their recycling and end-of-life (EoL) treatment is still a demanding practice. Therefore, this open webinar wants to have a closer look at the short-term challenges of recycling composite materials and explore different approaches to EoL.
This webinar wants to promote a wider dialogue and exploration of the topic. It will allow companies to grasp from high-level experts and thought leaders from various stakeholder groups insights on how to drive a circularity agenda.
