WE STRIVE FOR:

THE CHALLENGE

In 2011 the UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights have set a clear direction for companies based on the shared understanding that business enterprises can profoundly impact the human rights of employees, consumers, and communities wherever they operate. These impacts may be positive, such as increasing access to employment or improving public services, or negative, such as polluting the environment, underpaying workers, or forcibly evicting communities.

The states have the duty to protect the human rights and the companies need to prevent, mitigate and, where appropriate, remedy human rights abuses that they cause or contribute to.

OUR APPROACH

CSR Europe’s Materials Leadership Hub will focus on moving from due diligence requirements to real impact in raw materials sourcing.

Corporate Members and National Partner Organisations - ArcelorMittal, BASF, Enel, Coca-Cola, LSE Ideas, Solvay, Toyota, UPJ - will explore due diligence practices and the role of governments and civil society in enabling corporate action for systemic change.

WHAT WE DELIVER

CSR Europe members will engage key stakeholders, including the European Commission.

This engagement will build up towards the development of policy recommendations that will feed CSR Europe’s “Policy Paper for a Social Green Deal 2024-2029”, which will be presented at the beginning of 2024.
