WE STRIVE FOR

THE CHALLENGE

The properties that make composite materials ideal for many applications in the aerospace, automotive, wind energy, construction, and marine sectors, are the same that make their end-of-life (EoL) treatment challenging and costly.

The separation of fibre and matrix is difficult, due to the covalent bonds created in the polymer chemical structure. The use of fillers and additives that provide additional properties increases this difficulty even more.

Reducing the environmental footprint of advanced materials will be key to advancing Europe’s journey toward climate neutrality by 2050.

OUR APPROACH

The Think Tank “New Materials and Circular Economy Accelerator” aims at developing sustainable circular approaches for composite materials remains. The Think Tank is led by CSR Europe in collaboration with Leonardo, the global high-tech player in Aerospace, Defence, and Security.
