CSR Europe to Launch Blueprint on the Circularity of Composite Materials
The document will be released on 11 October at the high-level plenary of the European SDG Summit 2022: “The Challenge of Circularity in the Green Transition”.
The event will see the participation of Mariya Gabriel, EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth.
CSR Europe will present a practical Blueprint to advance the circularity of composite materials at the high-level plenary of the European SDG Summit on “The Challenge of Circularity in the Green Transition”. The event will take place on the Summit’s virtual platform on Tuesday 11th October at 11:30-13:00.
The Blueprint is the result of the working groups of CSR Europe’s New Materials and Circular Economy Accelerator Think Tank – run in collaboration with Leonardo. The document takes stock of the challenges and opportunities related to increasing the circularity of composite materials, in support of Europe’s 2050 climate neutrality target. While allowing for lightweight structures and energy savings, the sustainability advantages of fiber-reinforced composite materials during the use phase are not yet matched by lower impacts throughout the lifecycle. Therefore, the reduction of their environmental impacts will play an important role in the future, especially for the aerospace, automotive, wind energy, construction, and marine sectors.
Mariya Gabriel, European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, will take part in the event, presenting the priorities of the European Commission, with a focus on the research opportunities and strategic initiatives in the framework of the Circular Economy Action Plan and the Advanced Materials 2030 Manifesto. Other confirmed speakers include Alessandro Profumo, CEO of Leonardo and President of the AeroSpace and Defence Industries Association of Europe, and c-level speakers of Enel, Solvay, Siemens Gamesa and the World Economic Forum.
