WE STRIVE FOR
THE CHALLENGE
Over the past couple of years, corporate tax transparency and responsibility are on top of the sustainability agenda for policymakers, NGOs, and a lot of Multinational (MNE) Groups. Rating agencies are integrating tax transparency as part of their ESG metrics to assess a company’s sustainability performance. At the same time, investors began to ask companies for more transparency on this topic and invest in more ethical organisations that are willing to disclose this information. Both at the international and European levels, there is a regulatory and compliance momentum regarding tax transparency with existing and upcoming regulations, such as the European Union’s (EU) public Country-by-Country Reporting (CBCR) Directive and the OECD CBCR (BEPS Action 13).
Meeting these growing expectations from society and policymakers alike is becoming increasingly challenging for companies that want to genuinely tackle corporate tax avoidance and aggressive tax planning.
OUR APPROACH
The overall objective of this collaborative platform is the development of a tool to assess how companies perform in terms of tax transparency and responsible tax behaviour. This can be achieved by the development of such a tool in collaboration with various stakeholders, such as frontrunner companies on the subject, civil society organizations, European and national institutions, tax networks and other relevant partners with expertise on the matter.
CSR Europe aims to influence the EU approach on tax reporting and develop a common European framework of measurement for companies’ performance on responsible and transparent tax behaviour.
WHAT WE DELIVER
Through the work of this collaborative platform, participating companies – including, among others, Enel, Fortum, Grundfos, Vattenfall, Ørsted – will be able to:
Show their sustainability initiatives related to tax, as well as their tax strategies.
Measure their (tax) transparency and their responsible tax behaviour.
Monitor and compare their progress over time and be able to show it internally and externally.
Interact with peers and learn from leading organisations how to enhance their responsible tax practices.
Build a narrative around their tax behaviour that can provide stakeholders and the public a clearer perspective of internal processes and operations on how a company executes its tax strategy and which principles are used.
Share and learn insights and experiences with other peers, as well as key stakeholders.
