VIEW AGENDA

Today, the role of Chief Sustainability Officers and equivalents within companies is crucial. They play a key role in future-proofing businesses, helping them stay competitive amidst evolving regulatory requirements, while also contributing to a sustainable and inclusive Europe. This is why, in June 2024, CSR Europe launched the continent’s first European Chief Sustainability Officers Network – an initiative aimed at enhancing industrial competitiveness and advancing the Just Transition agenda. With a focus on unlocking business potential and driving impactful sustainable development, the CSO Network supports European policymakers in crafting long-term policies and regulations underpinned by credible and effective implementation plans.

On 5 December 2024, representatives from the European Commission and members of the European Chief Sustainability Officers Network will gather at the European Commission - DG Internal Market, Industry, and Entrepreneurship headquarters in Brussels to adopt the CSO Network Action Plan 2025. This plan will define the scope, reach, and impact of the network’s initiatives.

In times of heightened geopolitical and economic turbulence, the CSO Network wants to be a key partner to the European Commission, contributing to revitalizing corporate sustainability as a driver of both business competitiveness and a better society. To this end, both parties will focus on:

  • “Making Europe simpler and faster, (…) aligning implementation with ground experience”

  • Making sustainability work:

    • Fostering business responsibility and collaboration, ensuring these are not solely the responsibility of individual enterprises.

    • Promoting business innovation and value creation.

EXPECTED PARTICIPANTS

  • 15-20 CSOs (or equivalent) part of the European CSO Network

  • 10-15 representatives from several European Commission Directorate Generals, e.g.  DG-GROW, DG-FISMA, DG-JUSTICE, DG-EMPL, DG-INTPA, EFRAG.
