The European Commission is expected to publish an ambitious mandatory due diligence law in Autumn 2021. While a new mandatary regulatory framework is welcome, alone it will not be enough to have a positive and transformative impact in producing countries.
To solve the root causes of human rights and environmental violations, closer collaboration between value chain actors, adequate financing for impact-oriented projects and a coherent financial framework to support sustainable investments are needed.
In this roundtable, we will explore how the European Commission, development banks, private investors and multinational companies can further collaborate to fund long-term projects to build local capacities and incentivize sustainable behavior in global supply chains.
