Automotive Manufacturers to Update Environmental and Social Expectations Towards Suppliers

Drive Sustainability – the leading partnership of 11 automotive manufacturers - and the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) will release the first draft of the new Automotive Industry Guiding Principles to Enhance Sustainability Performance in the Supply Chain.

The document reflects the widened scope of the Drive Sustainability’s common strategy and the new global sustainability landscape marked, for instance, by the upcoming EU law on mandatory human rights due diligence, the Green Deal, and increased awareness towards environmental degradation, climate change, and the need for an inclusive approach to due diligence.

The Guiding Principles constitute the main framework used by the automotive partnership to develop common tools and activities and deliver a common message to suppliers. They highlight the importance of responsible business conduct and the need for action to build sustainable and resilient supply chains.

Companies are expected to support a proactive approach to environmental responsibility by protecting the ecosystems, conserving natural resources, and reducing the environmental footprint of their operations, products, and services throughout their life cycle. At the same time, companies should also respect the human rights of workers, and treat all people with dignity as recognized by the international community.

Drive Sustainability invites all the automotive value chain actors, regulators, civil society, industry initiatives, academia, and other relevant stakeholders, to participate in the online consultation from 10 March to 16 April.
