Coca-Cola Europe Joins the European Sustainable Industry Summit as Platinum Sponsor
The leading total beverage company reaffirms its support for a sustainable, responsible, and inclusive Europe at the sustainability event of the year for the industry.
Coca-Cola Europe will take part as platinum sponsor in CSR Europe’s European Sustainable Industry Summit in Brussels on 25-26 June 2024. In this year of significant political change, Coca-Cola is looking forward to the Summit to reaffirm its support for a strong and thriving European Union that keeps sustainability, responsibility, and inclusion high in its agenda. At the Summit, the leading corporation will take part in the high-level panel on “Leveraging the EU Sustainability Framework for Corporate Impact”. In dialogue with other industry, policy, and civil society stakeholders they will address how the European Union can build its strength while continuing to invest and prioritize critical actions to foster the transition to a more sustainable, responsible and inclusive future.
“For over a century, we have called Europe home, sharing its challenges and ambitions. Today we encourage the EU to maintain its climate ambitions, ensure sustainability and competitiveness go hand in hand and leave no one behind in the transition to the low carbon and digital societies of the future. This should be underpinned by a renewed muti-stakeholder dialogue where the private sector can share its insights and real-life experiences.” – Wouter Vermeulen, VP Sustainability and Public Policy of Coca-Cola Europe, highlighted ahead of the event.

Coca-Cola has been in Europe for over a century. From the first bottle of Coca-Cola sold in London in 1900, today Coca-Cola has more than 39,000 employees in Europe, and its business supports 783,000 jobs across the value chain.
As an important corporate player, Coca-Cola is strongly commitment to help addressing some of the EU’s biggest challenges. Coca-Cola supports the EU’s ambition to become the first climate-neutral continent globally by 2050. To get there, Coca-Cola is accelerating actions on Packaging, which accounts for a significant portion of its climate footprint in Europe, to achieve a circular economy. It is also continuing to work on protecting water, its most important ingredient. In 2022 it replenished globally 159% of the water used in its finished beverages.
Coca-Cola also supports EU’s vision for creating healthier food environments reducing sugar in its drinks without compromising on taste, promoting low-and no calorie drinks, and offering smaller portion sizes.
Finally, Coca-Cola is focused on helping to build a more inclusive future. In 2023, the Coca-Cola System together with The Coca-Cola Foundation, contributed over €30 million to communities across Europe, equipped over 170,000 people facing barriers in the labour market, and provided over 13,000 micro, small and medium sized enterprises with tools, resources, and enhanced access to funding to support their sustainability and resilience.
