Translating the EU Green Deal into Local Action
This conference on Translating the Green Deal into Local Action is held during the Belgian EU presidency. This is the perfect moment right before the EU elections to send a clear message to European policymakers for the post-2024 era. Just like you, we believe that the local level should be embedded in the heart of the Green Deal because it has the power to mobilize. It’s time to let the mayors speak!
The conference aims to highlight the way forward for the implementation of the EU Green Deal. What we need is a new multilevel governance framework, with bridges between the EU initiatives and more direct funding solutions. Be inspired during the conference by the best practices across Europe and share your own. Experience in-depth sessions with experts from the local to the European level. Share a glass with other local leaders while building strong connections for the future.
At the conference, the Committee of the Regions will formally hand over the Declaration of European local and regional leaders to Alexander De Croo (Prime Minister of Belgium). This Declaration with a clear set of recommendations and signed by 550 mayors and regional leaders from across Europe will be very powerful. To make sure our voices are heard, we are welcoming you to the heart of the EU: the Hemicycle of the European Parliament and the Committee of the Regions in Brussels.

European Humanitarian Forum
The Forum will take place in the context of sharply increasing humanitarian needs, changing geopolitical realities and a shrinking humanitarian space.
The 2024 edition of the European Humanitarian Forum will be co-hosted by the European Commission and Belgium in its capacity as Presidency of the Council of the EU.
The event will offer an opportunity to further strengthen the cooperation and partnership among countries affected by crises, donors, international stakeholders, the EU, and its Member States.
Through high-level discussions, political debates and brainstorming sessions, the Forum will serve to jointly put forward innovative, sustainable, and efficient approaches to address current challenges.
When: 18 - 19 March
Where: Brussels & online
2024 Connecting Europe Days
Connecting Europe Days will bring together politicians, financial institutions, industry representatives, transport stakeholders and the European Commission to discuss concrete measures and exchange good practices on creating a fully decarbonised, resilient, seamless and digital transport and mobility network in Europe. It will take stock of the ambitious goals set out in the EU Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy
The revised trans-European transport network (TEN-T) Regulation, with the launch of nine new European Transport Corridors and a revamped governance system led by eleven European TEN-T Coordinators, will be a central point of the discussions, as will the future of infrastructure funding and financing. Participants will also address the question of infrastructure climate resilience.
Threats to transport connectivity, including Russia’s ongoing aggression against Ukraine, have repeatedly put the functioning of the EU Single Market at risk in recent years. Conference sessions will look at the EU transport network, its role in ensuring connectivity with the EU’s neighbours, and its preparedness and resilience against external threats.
Participants will see state-of-the art innovations first-hand at an exhibition of EU-funded projects. The event is being organised together with the upcoming Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

EU-Zambia Copper Business Forum
The EU – Zambia Copper Business Forum builds on a study commissioned by the EU, on the various opportunities for expanding and reinforcing the EU-Zambia copper-trade and copper transformation in Zambia. The study identified no less than 9 different areas with under-utilized potential for expanding and growing the Zambian copper industry.
At the same time:
the global copper demand is expected to nearly double by 2035 and then continue growing to satisfy the needs of the green transition to zero net emission. The demand for copper cables and wires is set to increase in Zambia and regional markets, led by electrification and urbanisation.
the Africa Free Continental Trade Agreement (AfCTA) with its 55 countries offers new and greater market access opportunities.
Zambia is a recognized politically stable and secure country with an investment-friendly legislation and the vocation to become a regional hub.
Against this favourable background, the EU Delegation to Zambia and COMESA jointly with Zambia Government and Zambian private sector organisations, is organising a 3-day Copper Business forum in Kitwe from 10th to 12th April 2024.
The Forum aims at forging EU-Zambian business partnerships, particularly around the identified opportunities. The forum will also offer the occasion to discuss the copper current trends from the Zambia perspective, understand the Zambia business environment, and exchange on important issues such as ESG regulation and implication for EU-Zambia investments.
A significant portion of the program will be dedicated to facilitating business-to-business matchmaking and fostering connections between European and Zambian companies and between European investors and the Zambian Government.
When: 10-12 April
Where: Kitwe, Zambia
