Johnson & Johnson Publishes its 2021 Health for Humanity Report
Johnson & Johnson’s 2021 Health for Humanity Report details the progress of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies in sustainability and it is also the primary source of annual disclosure on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.
In 2021, Johnson & Johnson made notable advances in its ESG performance and its Health for Humanity 2025 Goals:
To drive global health equity, J&J provided its COVID-19 vaccine globally at a not-for-profit price and shipped 180 million doses of its single-shot COVID-19 vaccine to the African Union, COVAX, and South Africa through advanced purchase agreements and country donations; the company provided 731,000 nurses, midwives and community health workers with skills, tools and growth opportunities; as part of Our Race to Health Equity, they invested in culturally competent community care models to close racial health gaps, reaching 159,000 healthcare professionals and researchers in the U.S.; and strengthened local economies by spending $5.22 billion with small and diverse suppliers, achieving a milestone in accountable business practices.
To drive future innovation, J&J’s R&D spend increased to $14.7 billion, the highest annual spend in its recent history.
To further empower employees, J&J refreshed its Enterprise diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy and increased global representation of women and ethnic, racially diverse employees at all business levels while reinforcing a culture of inclusion and belonging.
To advance environmental health, in alignment with global climate change mitigation efforts, J&J signed the Race to Zero/Business Ambition for 1.5°C campaign, aiming to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2045, as the company further reduced its carbon footprint by 34%. And as part of Healthy Lives Mission and as a signatory to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, Consumer Health declared a commitment to reduce total annual use of virgin plastics in packaging weight by 25% by 2025.
