21.6 million third-country nationals live in the European Union. They account for 4.2% of the total population and tend to be younger than the residents of their host countries, thus representing a precious pool of talents for the local job market. Unfortunately, however, this resource ends up being too often overlooked by companies looking for their next hire.  As reported by Eurostat, the unequal access to employment is forcing 5.7 million immigrants to live in extreme poverty in Europe, which is over twice the rate of locals (17%).

What is preventing European businesses from reaching this segment of the population and unlocking the innovative potential of a diverse workforce?

BUSINESS UNITING TALENTS 2030

CSR Europe, with the support of the King Baudouin Foundation and the Prince Philippe Fund, launched Business Uniting Talents 2030 (BUT2030) to assess corporate ethnic Diversity & Inclusion (ED&I) practices and processes in Belgium and open the pipelines for the creation of inclusive workforces.

This pilot project saw the involvement of AGC, Axa Belgium, Engie Benelux, L’ Oréal Belgilux, Janssen Pharmaceutical, Solvay, Telenet, and The Port of Antwerp.

Together, the group developed a Business Model for ED&I and a related Assessment tool to measure and evaluate companies’ performance. Building upon the inputs received by stakeholders and employees during the consultation process, CSR Europe guided these companies in the development of practical improvement plans.

FROM BELGIUM TO EUROPE

This year BUT2030 is transforming into a European Leadership Network for the promotion of social equality beyond Belgium. Companies that wish to lead on ethnic diversity & inclusion in Europe are invited to join the webinar on 10th May to learn more about this two-year journey.
