8 CEOs Leading on Ethnic Diversity Met His Majesty the King Filip of Belgium
Business Uniting Talents 2030 (BUT2030) is the project led by CSR Europe to foster ethnically diverse, inclusive workplaces.
Project partners AGC Glass Europe, Axa Belgium, Atelier Jean Regniers, Engie Belgium, Janssen, L’Oréal Belgilux, Solvay, and Telenet presented to His Majesty their achievements and next steps within BUT2030.
On the 23rd of June, the CEOs of AGC Glass Europe, Axa Belgium, Atelier Jean Regniers, Engie Belgium, Janssen, L’Oréal Belgilux, Solvay, Telenet presented to His Majesty the King Filip of Belgium the results of their work in Business Uniting Talents 2030 (BUT2030).
BUT2030 is the project led by CSR Europe and funded by the King Baudouin Foundation and the Prince Filip Fund, to support companies in their journey towards the development of an ethnically diverse workforce and inclusive society by 2030.
“We need social inclusion and employment of Belgians with foreign backgrounds. If we continue as we do now it is dangerous for our future and society” said His Majesty the King Filip of Belgium in his opening speech.
With the country set to celebrate its 200th birthday in 2030, BUT2030 wants to address the current employment gap of almost 20% between natives and Belgians with foreign roots.
“Belgium has more than 30% of the population with ethnically diverse backgrounds. There is a sense of urgency and CSR Europe is aiming at fostering diversity and inclusion in the world of enterprises”, stated Alexis Brouhns, Chair of the Prince Filip Fund.
Chloé Ramon, CSR Europe’s People Manager, presented the ideal business model for ethnic diversity and inclusion and how companies are currently performing against it. At the roundtable discussions, many CEOs indicated their score, as an essential push to take action, for instance, by promoting training on unconscious bias at the management level or by setting up partnerships with schools and training centers to involve groups of ethnically diverse students.
Next, the project aims at:
Scaling up its action by welcoming more companies amongst its ranks, small and medium enterprises.
Engaging with social networks of ethnically diverse talents.
Adopting a sectorial approach.
Focussing on intersectionality to link ethnicity with other factors of discrimination, such as gender.
