  • Engie, Iberdrola, Philip Morris, Solvay, and Titan will work together in the collaborative platform Biodiversity & Industry, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals and responding to the expectations of EU policymakers.

  • The platform is set to kick-off on 22 September 2020

Engie, Iberdrola, Philip Morris, Solvay, and Titan are joining forces in the collaborative platform Biodiversity and Industry to develop a holistic approach to environmental issues in the business strategy. While many tools have already been developed to assess a company’s biodiversity impact, such as the Global Biodiversity Score and the Integrated Assessment Tool, Biodiversity and Industry takes it a step further.

The collaborative platform will strengthen the connection between biodiversity and overall business and sustainability strategy to ensure impact on the ground.

After the initial biodiversity benchmark assessment of participating companies, the Biodiversity & Industry Platform will kick-off on September 22nd at a virtual meeting. Companies will officially start working to improve processes across the value chain, taking advantage of peer-to-peer learning to develop a biodiversity blueprint. The document will work as practical toolkit collecting best practices of data-driven initiatives on biodiversity preservation. The final goal? Building a common framework to scale-up corporate action.

As a result, companies of Biodiversity and Industry will contribute not only to reaching the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but to meeting the increased expectations of EU policymakers. President von der Leyen’s new 2030 Biodiversity Strategy - a comprehensive, systemic, and ambitious long-term plan for protecting nature and reversing the degradation of ecosystems - is a key pillar of the European Green Deal. In other words, the Biodiversity Strategy, and its associated Action Plan, is part of Europe's growth strategy and will drive the recovery from the Covid-19 crisis.

The success of a company is dependent on its ability to create value without reducing natural capital and ecosystem services, including biodiversity.
