In order to reach the targets of the Paris Climate agreement, urgent actions need to be taken by all societal actors in the next 10 years, starting now. While political intervention is needed, we believe that non-state actors can play a crucial role as well.
In this context we have launched in Belgium the “Belgian Alliance for Climate Action”. A similar project is being set up in Luxemburg. This alliance, based on the Science-based Targets (SBT) methodology, is explicitly aimed at bringing together organisations on the theme of climate action and ensuring ambitious and credible climate goals are set by them. We aim not only at corporate actors but also academic/research institutions and non-profits.
During this session we will explain our approach in setting up these national initiatives and present our first experiences. We will share the format of our project openly as we believe these initiatives can easily be copied by other countries. In this way we hope to inspire other networks to set up similar projects.
