From our lunch box to the plastic bag from our last supermarket’s trip, plastic has been making our life far easier. However, in 70 years, the material’s world production has exploded, passing from 2 million metric tons (Mt) in 1950 to 380 Mt in 2015. In Europe, the post-consumer plastic waste recycling rate is still lagging when compared to other materials.

Plastic is a key priority for the European Commission, who developed the “Strategy for Plastics in A Circular Economy” in the framework of the Green Deal. The document includes measures to drive investment and innovation towards circular solutions and tackle the sources of marine litter.

The CSR network IMS-Luxembourg took the lead on plastics with its Zero Single-Use Plastic Manifesto, aimed at eliminating single-use plastic of participating companies by the end of 2020. More than 60 companies have signed the manifesto and the initiative expanded to Greece and Cyprus, where the problem of plastic pollution in the coast areas is getting worst year-by-year.

The evolution of Responsible Management of Single-Use Plastics (RMSUP) is increasingly important for businesses in taking actions towards the Sustainable Development Goals. Why? Because RMSUP can be included as a dynamic ESG issue in the materiality assessments of companies.

Join this National roundtable to discover the initiatives, frameworks, and tools on Responsible Management of Single-Use Plastics. We will bring you the latest best practices from  companies, business networks and higher education institutions that have already implemented them.
